FACE VALUE

Over the 2022 summer, I interned in New York City. Every day I would have a 45-minute commute on the subway. I would watch people come and go, not knowing their stories but observing their lives. I noticed everyone stayed to themselves, using their phone for entertainment. With one short scan, your personal device is able to unlock everything and anything you hold so close. Was there a feeling of being seen by the lens of your camera vs the eyes of a human? That had me thinking; security is all around us. We are constantly being watched by the eye of society. Good or bad, right or wrong, hard to say. What I do understand is Facial recognition technology is something that is only going to advance in years to come, and we must learn how to protect ourselves; yet ultimately, you cannot be fully protected by the unexpected.
